Fornear Photo Friday | Brian & Leslie’s St. Louis Engagement

We have known Leslie for quite a long time so when she asked us to do wedding photos for her and Brian we were really excited! Being from Central Illinois they like about half of the people from there are St. Louis Cardinal fans (which we knew)… being Matt & I are Cubs fan (I know I should like the Crew, and I don’t dislike them but my love for the Cubs is long story for a different day!)

Oh and how do you go to St. Louis and NOT take pictures under the Arch... I think you are almost obligated, right?!

After talking with them we thought why not making a weekend trip to a Cubs/Cards game an engagement shoot weekend, plus Leslie went to college there so she knew her way around no problem! Minus me with the worst sinus infection of my life and the Cubs losing again and the Cards winning the Central Division we had an awesome weekend with great pictures to show!

And I just realized that this week and last week both have a bit of a baseball theme too which I personally think is pretty cool! We can’t wait for their wedding tomorrow in Decatur, Illinois… congrats!!

Thirsty Thursday | New Glarus, Berliner Weiss

So I have a confusion to make because I need to be honest… and we are friends right?? Well I am personally I have not always been a huge fan of beer brewed by New Glarus Brewing. UGH, do you still like me?! Wisconsinite sin to the max I know. It has nothing to do with the brewery, the quality or even the flavor really… it just never has agreed with me if you get what I mean. I have never been quite sure why either but that little fact has always kept me clear of beer that I will try a sip or two of and back away slowly.

Recently however I decided it was time to step up and get over my fear of not feeling well in favor of the beer you can only get in Wisconsin… one of those such beers I actually purchased and didn’t just try a sip of at a beer fest was one of New Glarus’s Thumbprint Series beers, the Berliner Weiss. A Berliner Weisse by definition is a light, sour, low abv beer and cloudy / unfiltered (much like a German style Hefe Weiss) and the New Glarus version is all of that and more! It has been awhile since I have had a sour but this beer was such a tart, refreshing and surprise that I don’t even mind the under 4%abv (and no tummy trouble, yeah!!) I know this is only available in Wisconsin but if you can get your hands on it I certainly would if you could while it is a limited release. So maybe the next time I want something light and refreshing out in about in the Northwoods I just might try my hand at that Spotted Cow on tap without fear… time to Drink Indigenously my friends!

Turntable Tuesday | Jack White, Lazaretto

On Record Store Day 2014 Jack White at his Third Man Records’ in Nashville Tennessee he did something no one else has done and in the process set a Guinness World Record for the World’sFastest Released Record as well as playing a private concert. My cousin and her husband were some of the lucky few in attendance for the madness that day. They later told me that being in the presence of a Jack White performance is knowing you are witnessing something special just from the energy in the room.

I have personally been a huge fan of Jack White for a long, long time. I love all of the White Stripes albums as well as his numerous side projects like The Raconteurs & The Dead Weather so when his first solo album Blunderbuss was released I simply couldn’t get enough of it! When Lazaretto was announced I knew the wait was going to be a long one, so when the day it finally dropped I ordered my copy from Third Man Records!

It would be a crime if I didn’t mention all of the attention to detail taken into account with this physical manifestation of this album as well including all of the following:

- 180 gram vinyl
- 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
- 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
- Side A plays from the inside out
- Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
- Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
- Both sides end with locked grooves
- Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
- Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
- Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing and mastering
- Different running order from the CD/digital version
- LP utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD and digital version

Since we had been streaming the album via the free iTunes app for a few weeks we already knew how absolutely amazing each and every song crafted was. The biggest and most complimentary thing I can say is that if you loved Blunderbuss, (which clearly I did) Lazaretto literally picks right up where it left off and explodes into something even better. Jack White really is one of the most unique and talented artists of our time so if you haven’t picked up your copy you need to get on that right away!

Fornear Photo Friday | Matt & Kristi’s Milwaukee Engagement

We met Matt & Kristi a few years ago when Matt was a groomsmen in a wedding we shot (that was a total blast!) about a year ago they contacted us for their own nuptials being held tomorrow! To celebrate their upcoming wedding I thought it would be fun to share some images from their engagement session we shot last Summer all over Milwaukee!

It was great day as we started with them and their pup in Kilbourn Park overlooking the beautiful Milwaukee skyline, moving to the iconic Milwaukee Art Museum and it’s expansive Calatrava on Lake Michigan and then onto Miller Park home of the Milwaukee Brewers! Matt & Kristi are total Wisconsin sports junkies… and we love it!

Fun fact, our shoot happened to take place on the opening Sunday of the NFL so there was lots of checking of scores for everyone’s fantasy football teams and making sure we were done with the shoot in time for opening kick-off of the Packer’s game. (Kristi even shared with me that her & her girlfriends had begun their own fantasy football league since they got tired of hearing their boyfriends/fiancés/husbands talking about it all of the time…. Ha!!) Quickly after shooting at Miller Park everyone promptly changed into their Packer gear to cheer on the Pack.

Oh and Matt partied with Dave Grohl for his bachelor party in New Orleans with the pictures to prove it... I mean really, HOW cool is that?!! I am sure their wedding tomorrow is going to be a AWESOME… Congrats to Matt & Kristi!!

Thirsty Thursday | Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Summer Pils

I LOVE social networks, especially ones like Instagram, Twitter & Untappd! I can't even begin to describe all of the great new friends I have met from all of the country and the world that share similar interests in photography, beer and music. Through Instagram in particular other craft beer drinkers and I gather to talk and share beer, this is when I was introduced to the world of beer trading. Without going into the specifics I have a friend in Texas that I collaborate so he & his wife can try beers from the Midwest and my husband & I can try from the Southern United States…. Needless to say it’s pretty awesome!

One of such recent trades I received a bottle of Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s current seasonal selection, Summer Pils! A quick bit of info…. Saint Arnold is based in Houston and happens to be the oldest craft brewery in Texas celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year having started up in 1994. Summer Pils is light, refreshing and has a nice kiss of Czech Saaz and Hallertauer hops with a soft water finish, just like any good pilsner does. With a mild abv of 4.9% it is easy drinking and awesome for a hot Texas (or Wisconsin!) day. I simply can’t wait to start sampling other Saint Arnold Brewing’s brews… now that is a mouthful, ha!
