Northwoods Life | Friday the 13th Zombie Laser Tag Hunt

We are pretty lucky to live where we do. Growing up I never quite appreciated my small, tourist driven town in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and longed to leave… which I did for about 15yrs. I am very glad I did so that I could experience the world and bring it back with me when we did finally decided this is where we wanted to settle.

I love that so many small business do great things to not only help the community but to also have wonderful things to do for it’s residents and visitors alike. One such event we were able to participate in this past week was with Eagle Falls Adventure Golf & Laser Tag in Eagle River, Wisconsin as they hosted a Friday the 13th Zombie Laser Tag event benefiting Trees For Tomorrow a local conservation education resource offering programs, workshops and special interest classes since 1944.

I just love when business where live see a need for something and have no problem stepping in and helping out. As you can see this was not only a FUN event in the community but helped bring in some funds for a great cause.... I mean who WOULDN'T want to hunt zombies on Friday the 13th?!

Turntable Tuesday | Andrew WK, I Get Wet

So I had a pretty awesome thing happen to me this past week… I had my first celebrity Twitter follower! It. Was. Awesome. I mean REALLY awesome! For those of you that don’t know, I am still pretty new to Twitter at this time so maybe I am overly excited but I don’t care I am going to revel in my bliss! Who might this celebrity be you may ask?? None other than Andrew WK!

Back in the early years of the Husband Man & I’s relationship we listened to a great deal of Andrew WK, even to the point that I think both I Get Wet & The Wolf were on repeat, especially on road trips (like ones to Bond Falls that I posted about yesterday…. In fact one was to Bond Falls from what I recall!) Any who… I Get Wet was Andrew WK’s first album coming out in 2001 featuring the monster hit Party Hard as well as She Is Beautiful and Party til You Puke. When the 10 year deluxe edition LP with a gatefold cover and white vinyl was released we knew we had to have it. If for some reason you have never heard this I Get Wet, well now is the time to get on it…. and don’t forget, as always, to PARTY HARD!

Fornear Photo Friday | Michelle & Chad’s Northwoods Waterski Wedding

I would have to say this by far is one of our favorite weddings we shot last summer! Michelle & Chad are from the Milwaukee area however wanted to get married in the Northwoods where they now have a cabin and Michelle was on a local waterski team (there are many of those up this way) growing up over the Summers in Three Lakes, WI called the Aqua Devils.

Before the wedding, getting to know Michelle & Chad it was absolutely clear how much they both love waterskiing and there was no doubt that it would be a huge part of their big day! All of the awesome ladies and dabber dudes arrived via speed boat to the ceremony/reception site at the Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River, WI…. Be it the girl’s boat went just a bit slower to ensure all hair and make up stayed in place!

This poor couple too was cursed with some nasty weather for not only their engagement shoot we shot but as well as their bachelor/bachelorette parties and wedding shower but thankfully we couldn’t have asked for a nicer wedding day with no rain, yeah!!

With all of the waterski details from the boutonnieres, centerpieces recalling local lakes right down to the cake this beautiful rustic wedding was a blast… and as you can see from the end of the night photos I think everyone had a great time, including us! Michelle & Chad with their friends and family were amazing clients and we couldn’t have asked for a better day for them!

Thirsty Thursday | Capital Brewing, Supper Club

I am starting to wonder what is up with me and cans these last few posts, but hey Summer is finally here in the Northwoods so no regrets! Craft cans are really the way to go this time of year, they are like little light proof mini kegs full of portable deliciousness  I have always loved the super retro feel and the concept behind Capital Brewing’s Supper Club too, it’s such a fun beer and paies homage to the tradition of Supper Clubs in Wisconsin… which is awesome and just gave me another idea for blog post… but I digress!

This very simply yet refreshing lager brewed in a Wisconsin traditional style is mild and perfect for taking with you anywhere like the artwork implies like camping, canoeing or grilling… just like we were doing tonight with it! This has a very malt forward profile and only uses one type of hop, Northern Brewery. An abv of just 5.2% makes it indeed drinkable and everyone you are hanging out with will want one of these cold brews made by the guys from Capital Brewing out of Middleton, Wisconsin. But wait, it's not all about the guys at Capital as they now have a female brewer on their crew too, Ashley Kinart... girl power oh yeah!  Just remember it's all "A Wisconsin State of Mind!"

Turntable Tuesday | Deftones, Around the Fur

I remember when I first started listening to the Deftones, it was in college, 1999 in Phoenix, Arizona to be exact. One of my funky fellow art student friends was really into them and at her urging I turned them on and liked what I heard! Though Around the Fur was the Deftones second album it was my first album to become acquainted with them.

Clearly this album is one of their most recognizable due to the image on its cover. The story behind it from what I have read is that it was taken at a party the band was hosting and when they saw the image they proclaimed was what they wanted to use for the artwork. Unfortunately no one knew the identity of the women so they had to pursue tracking her down for her permission to use the photograph, which they were able to do and she obliged.

Notable for it’s songs My Own Summer (Shove It) and Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) this whole album from start to finish really is a fantastic journey into the alternative metal sound. Being someone who loves metal the unique soft yet hard sound the Deftones create with Around the Fur really sets them not only apart from so many other bands but were really ahead of their time in the late 90’s when this was released. Give it a spin if you haven’t already!

Travel | New York, New York – Washington Square Park

Ok, I will admit I am slightly embarrassed by the lack of photos we took while in New York. Being there for the first time was slightly overwhelming and for the most part all of my sisters and I really just wanted to “take it in”.  Our first day in the city I am not ashamed to say we actually took one of the city tour buses, which YES is very touristy in itself but it was a great way to get to known the lay of the land and the different neighborhoods specifically in Manhattan. Plus we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect 70 degrees and sunny day to be riding in the open air in one of the most amazing cities in the world!

Day two Sister Lisa couldn’t join us but Sister Michele and I made our way back down to the city via train again from Connecticut where we were staying and this day took advantage of our knowledge from the previous day even using the subway (which was awesome and not scary!) We got to walk a bit of Greenwich Village, Soho, Noho and the East Village…. It was relaxed and perfect.

One of our favorite spots where we finally did take out the camera was Washington Square Park. Bustling full of life and activity, from vendors to families to pets, it was a great place to just wander about at for a bit! Some quick history tidbits, the arch was originally meant to be a temporary fixture celebrating America’s first president George Washington’s centennial but it was loved so much that the design was slightly reconfigured and constructed so it could stay permanently. It is also said to be a very old cemetery with many bodies still buried benighted it’s grassy knolls. The southwest corner of the park is also home to all of the chess players seated on their benches made famous in movies and tv shows. I honestly think we could have stayed in this park all day if we had time, it was such an amazing place to be!

Fornear Photo Friday | Photo Booth

To say that Matt & I are excited to start offering a PhotoBooth for Fornear Photo is an understatement!! To let you in on a bit of the behind the scenes of it or should I say “backdrop” this is something we have wanted to do for quite awhile and our trip to Las Vegas in March for WPPI only reaffirmed that.

After seeing many different routes we could take we thought best for our business to go with something a little bit less traditional, which is an open-air concept photo booth with different backdrops to choose from (and we hope to continue to add onto this fleet over time!) We have our Black & White Modern, Black on Black Hexagon and Retro Red & White Stripes patterns. All are on high quality fabric with awesome velvet flocking!

What’s really cool to is that though we feel these might be most popular with our couples getting married, we can certainly are offering them for events, gatherings and parties for companies or families alike! In addition they are great for a more non-traditional headshot or studio setting portrait shoot. Check out the Fornear Photo website to learn more or contact us today!
