Travel | Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

So if you follow me on Instagram you would know that we spent 6 days out in Las Vegas, Nevada for WPPI (the professional wedding photographers convention)! We had an amazing time and there will be more photos to come but by far the highlight of our time there was the mini road trip we took to Valley ofFire State Park. On our last full day in Vegas when all of our classes were over we decided we wanted to make a trip out to the red rocks. Those of you who know me personally know I lived and went to college in Phoenix, Arizona so I have a HUGE place in my heart for the desert (in yoga the teach will say to relax your mind and go to the beach, mine goes to the painted mountains… you get the idea!)

A bit about Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada…  it happens to be the first and oldest Nevada state park being incorporated in 1935. Located in the Mojave Desert near Overton, Nevada the park sits on the corner of the Lake Mead NationalRecreation Area and just under 60 miles from the Las Vegas strip, there are tons of visitors and open year around. Plus there is lots of great hiking, biking and overnight camping (including RV) spots.

As we were in the process of renting our car we got a recommendation from a fellow photographer attending WPPI from Chicago (thanks JasonKaczorowski Photography!) on how amazing Valley of Fire was so we switched gears and were off on our trek…. boy was it worth it! 45 minutes and a small state park fee later we were in complete awe. When you are at a place like the Valley of Fire it’s almost comparable to a spiritual experience and sadly the pictures hardly do it justice. Needless to say we had an  incredible afternoon exploring this amazing state park!
