Fornear Photo Friday | Kickn it with Kick Ass Flowers

Nothing says springtime like some flowers... Weddings are awesome and some of the best accessories a bride or groom can have are some kick ass flowers! They can be a very subtle accent to highlight or a huge focus like non other on the big day. So many of the couples we have worked with have had amazing flowers that we just had to share some of them today to help bring bit more brightness to your day (thank you to the 4” of fresh powder we just received here in the Northwoods!)

We also work with many other great wedding vendors but one of our favorites is Mary Horant from Horant’s Garden Center so a big shout out to her awesome services featured in many shots here! If you are planning on getting married in the Northwoods there is no doubt she is who you should use your floral needs!

Thirsty Thursday | Rogue Brewing, Morimoto Imperial Pilsner

It’s funny, there are day where I feel I know a lot about the craft beer world and other days BOOM… nope! The day I came across my first Imperial Pilsner I had ever seen was one of those days and that so happens to be this Morimoto Imperial Pilsner by Rogue Brewing. At a whopping 8.8% abv we felt ok about aging it for a bit (about 6 months I would say) even though I am sure it could easily have went longer. The flavor was of a classic soft water pils finish with so much more complexity in the hops and malt characteristics and had I not read directly on the bottle the abv I would have never guessed it because you could easily drink this all day on a hot Summer afternoon!

This Rogue beer is in collaboration with Chef Morimoto (know from both the Japanese & American versions of the Iron Chef on the Food Network) and the Morimoto Imperial Pilsner is just one of many in this particular series.

Also, you simply can’t talk about this beer without talking about the beautiful vessel it is packaged in, a silk-screened ceramic bottle with a resalable swing top. This beer was SUCH a surprising treat and one of our favorite new beers in a VERY long time and now The Husband Man and I are going to be on the hunt for more!

Travel | Life Cube Project, Las Vegas Nevada

Finally wrapping up shot of our trip to Las Vegas with a really cool project that we only learned about after we arrived in Vegas from our friends Mali Mish called The Life Cube Project. Given the nature of this very unique art and community undertaking it was a now or never moment that we needed to experience that we knew immediately we had to see before it was gone!

The Life Cube Project has a Burning Man inspired theme where the mastermind behind the installation, Scott Cohen, had done this before but never in an urban space. Many artists help bring the cube to life including muralist LA Christina Angelina, metal worker Anthony Calderone and Steve “Mowgli” Moffett, a Las Vegas artist who created a PacMan board on the floor of the cube just to name a few. Visitors were also encouraged to become part of the project as well by enhancing the artwork themselves (there was even paint and chalk provided on site for people to do so!) The night we arrived there was even a DJ spinning while people milled about taking photographs, chatting and even using the provided art utensils to leave their mark.

Much like at Burning Man the cube was to meet a fiery farewell, ignited less than a week ago on Friday March 21, 2014 everyone’s hopes, dreams, love and inspiration were sent into the universe where they could live forever. It was such an amazing site, I am really thankful we were able to be a small part of this inspiring moment and getting to see the progress now and years to come for the Las Vegas Downtown Revitalization Project! Turntable Tuesday | Pink Floyd, The Division Bell

Let me start off by saying The Division Bell is my FAVORITE Pink Floyd. Yes, you read that right. Now I know it’s Pink Floyd’s true last album together (which some will even debate) and it’s initial reviews are “ok” at best, but here me out! Maybe this album is more of a nostalgic thing for me. I have a huge emotional connection with music like I am sure many people do, which is what makes music so powerful and moving. I tend to associate it with moments and times in my life for good or bad, Division Bell is like that for me. Call it a coming of age time in my life (14 years old) and being the first Pink Floyd album I was familiar with… at that time in my life I had never heard anything like it and it was my introduction to the wonderfulness that encompasses all that is Pink Floyd. It also happens to be the Husband Man’s favorite for many of the same reasons I mentioned, so it is very near and dear to both of us. We had been searching far and wide for The Division Bell for some time. By complete chance the Husband Man had been in Green Bay, WI for a wedding dress shoot  and stopped by one of the local record stores and found it for a mere $29 (compared to the ones online for $150, so yes we got it for a steal!)

The Division Bell was released in the Spring of 1994 to poor reviews but sales success despite that as well as earning the GRAMMY for the “Best Rock Instrumental Performance” on Marooned. Take It Back and Coming Back To Life are still two of my very favorite all time Pink Floyd songs, I could simply listen to them both on repeat for days! David Gilmour’s soothing vocals just put you in a mellow mood, spin this today and take in the awesomeness that is The Division Bell!

Travel | Las Vegas, Nevada

About three weeks ago we got back from an awesome 6 days out in Las Vegas, Nevada for WPPI (the professional wedding photographers convention)! We ended up dedicating one night of photography to celebrate Vegas’s past and the beautiful neon history that goes along with it… we love all things retro, what can we say!

Of course one of our stops HAD to be the Welcome to Las Vegas sign! One my first trip to Vegas sadly we never got down to see it, as it is in an awkward location (and a hike) from most hotels and if you are headed to the very far South end of the strip it’s most likely just visit this infamous sign, which was worth it! I mean what else screams Vegas!?

The rest of the images were all take in the Freemont Street District (an other stop we didn’t have time to hit while I was there last time) but I am SOOOO glad we got to do this! Not only do you get to see the free light show at night but there is so much history and it feels like such a different place than what is on the strip (not that that is a bad thing!) but it really make there feel like there is so much more to do in Vegas. Plus we can’t wait until our next trip back to check out even more progress on the revitalization of this area too including the Container Park (which is closed at night so we didn’t get to visit) as well as the Airstream Hotel that will be opening later this year.  Needless to say we had a great time... until the next adventure Vegas!
