Life | Giada

This is the post I have been dreading to write, putting it off felt like maybe it wasn't real or didn't happen but it did. Our sweet boxer pup Giada who made us a family shortly after we were married passed away much too soon a few weeks ago and we were not ready for it.

Most boxers that pass young due to the ugliness that is cancer, some are lucky to go in their sleep from old age. Though some of her symptoms began a few months ago they were so hard to notice we attributed them to a long, harsh winter. Unfortunately our little Giada was taken due to a freak case of spinal arthritis that struck quickly and viciously leaving our pup that was faster than any other dog I have ever seen in my life hardly able to walk let alone roll over on her own in a span of just a little over a month. Her big brown eyes told us how absolutely confused and frustrated she was that she couldn't move her body the way her mind and soul wanted to. In her last days we spent lots of time cuddling and praying that she would just bounce up and be herself again, but it just didn't happen.

This has been heartbreaking to say the least. We adopted Giada from the local Humane Society of Vilas County between the ages of 1-2yrs old. She was found in the woods after being lost for what was thought to be a month or more. The poor girl was so thin but with such a sweet, big bobbly head (hence her name sake) and soft floppy ears. She also had many scars but we like to say that she came to us perfect because she was the sweetest most well mannered dog we had ever known.

We have literally traveled the whole Midwest with Giada, she really was our first child. From living in both Milwaukee and the Northwoods to the many road trips to Central Illinois to see family, a trek to Pittsburgh, walking downtown Chicago and camping along the shore of Lake Michigan our little girl got to do a lot in her short time with us. Matt & I loved her more than I can say and right now we both have huge holes in our hearts but we are thankful for the time we had and the life we could give to her.
